A Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) is someone who is a knowledgeable, skilled, and independent maternity care provider specializing in low-risk pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care, with a focus on out-of-hospital settings like homes and birth centers. Certified by the North American Registry of Midwives, CPMs provide comprehensive, evidence-based care, with training and expertise in out-of-hospital birth. They follow the "Midwives Model of Care," emphasizing natural birth, low intervention, and individualized support.
We love having older siblings attend your prenatal appointments! We might even have some very important jobs for them to help with. We strive to aid in sibling bonding by encouraging our "little helpers" to listen to the baby's heartbeat and help measure mom's belly.
We kindly ask that childcare arrangements be made for any children who are experiencing symptoms of illness.
We love when partners want to get involved during prenatal appointments, labor, birth, and postpartum. Some fathers choose to get into the birth tub to help comfort mom during labor or to "catch" their babies. Many fathers like to help with cutting the cord, announcing the birth weight, and putting on baby's first diaper.
Absolutely! Hydrotherapy has many benefits for relaxation during labor. Some women choose to labor and give birth in the water; while others just use the warm water for pain management and relaxation, then choose to get more grounded on land for the pushing phase of labor. We are here to support you no matter what you choose.
Although out-of-hospital birth is statistically safer, it does not guarantee a complication-free birth. We are highly skilled and trained to detect and manage most birth complications. We have all the necessary medical equipment and supplies, which preserves our capability to safely deliver out of the hospital. We bring all the necessary equipment such as oxygen, IV therapy, and medications, and they are available for use whenever needed. Deviations from normal that should not be managed out of the hospital often have early warning signs which permit ample time to transport to a nearby hospital.
